Steve Kirkpatrick

Managing Director

Mr. Kirkpatrick joined Cypress Associates as a managing director in 2025. He is based in Portsmouth, RI, where he works with Cypress’ clients in the New England region. His experience includes investment banking, investment management, corporate management, and new company formation.

 

Mr. Kirkpatrick began his career with Robertson Stephens & Company, where he spent almost a decade working on both the buy-side and sell-side. As an institutional equity salesman, he worked directly with leading institutional investors and participated in over 650 equity and convertible debt financings for emerging growth companies. Mr. Kirkpatrick later co-founded and co-managed a long/short equity hedge fund, which generated attractive returns during periods when the broader market experienced double-digit declines.

 

Mr. Kirkpatrick was an early employee of Glass Lewis & Company, where he helped the firm develop and market a forensic accounting service focused on identifying signs of financial, fiduciary, and business risks at public companies. After the firm was sold, he left to pursue other entrepreneurial activities. These include consulting for companies and municipalities, building and selling an ergonomic furniture business, serving as the Global Commercial Director of North Sails, the world’s largest sail-making company, and as the President of REMINC, a licensor of intellectual property in the global fasteners industry.

 

Immediately before joining Cypress, Mr. Kirkpatrick served as President of Full Sail Management, LLC, where he held the roles of fractional CFO and Business Development executive for privately held companies. Mr. Kirkpatrick has also been an active angel investor with an emphasis on companies in the marine technology industry. He is a past President of the Board of Sail Newport, Rhode Island’s public sailing center, and an active member of The New York Yacht Club, where he is currently the chair of the team racing subcommittee.

 

Mr. Kirkpatrick earned a BA in Economics from Tufts University, where he was a two-time All-American sailor, and an MBA with concentrations in Finance and Marketing from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
